How Much Landscaping Material Should I Order?

When creating a beautiful landscape on your property, it can be overwhelming selecting plants as you sift through the vast array of growing requirements and numerous other factors. Calculating how much landscaping material to order and having it delivered doesn’t have to be.
Our truck and trailers are easier on lawns as they weigh less than heavy duty dump trucks.
Here at JWS Dumpsters & Hauling, we take landscaping material orders by the ton. Below are examples of materials most commonly ordered by weight and approximately how much area it covers to give you a better idea of what you require.
Mulch- The weight can vary mainly depend on moisture content. A cubic yard of mulch can weigh 400-800 lbs. On average, 1 ton of mulch will cover approximately 300 square feet (when applied 4” deep).
Soil- The weight can vary due to composition and moisture content. On average, 1 ton of soil covers approximately 22 cubic feet.
River Rock- 80 square feet (when applied 3” deep) or 50 square feet (when applied 5” deep).
Class 5 Gravel- 100 square feet (when applied 2” deep).
