Save Money With Your Fall Projects

There is a huge push to complete home clean outs, renovations or moving before the bitter cold sets in. With a little planning, saving money can be achieved while potentially helping others and leaving less of a negative impact on the environment.
Here are a few tips to help cut down on how much junk you need to throw and more cost effective and environmentally friendly methods of disposal.
Rather than pay to have some of your items disposed of, you could donate it (if the items fit certain criteria) or bring to your county’s recycling center.
Many cities offer disposal of items once a year for free or at minimal cost for residents.
Appliances: If still in working condition, you can either drop off or arrange to have it picked up by a local charity.
Electronics: Companies who sell electronics often accept old electronic for free or for a small fee at certain store locations.
Mattresses & TVs: County recycling centers often charge a significantly lower fee for these items. Some cities may pick these items up for free or a small fee. It might be worth contacting your city to see if this is an option!
*Oftentimes there is an attached hazardous waste disposal site at county recycling centers so you can dispose of any hazardous items you may have in one trip, saving you time and further money.
Furniture: If still in good condition, consider donating to local charities. Oftentimes these companies will schedule a day to pick it up. Not only will it have a positive impact on the environment, it will free up more space for additional items in the dumpster trailer you rented.
Yard Waste: Many cities have sites that accept leaves, tree waste, brush & logs for free from residents. Be sure to call ahead to confirm acceptable item & hours.
*Most of these sites have limited hours after Labor Day & are open until the last Sunday in November (weather permitting).
