Tips for Loading Dumpsters

It is tempting to want to load a dumpster as quickly as possible, especially when working within a tight time frame where you have organized friends & family to help or an approaching dumpster pickup date. A little planning done ahead of time can save you a great deal of time, stress and help you utilize the dumpster space more efficiently.
1) Load Large/ Bulky/ Tall Items First:
After these items are loaded, you can fill in the gaps with smaller odds and ends, utilizing the dumpster space more efficiently.
Lay tall items on their back. To ensure safe transportation of the load, all items must be beneath the walls of the dumpster. By loading a tall item first, you can easily find a place for it rather than wasting time rearranging space later. This can help more evenly disperse weight in the dumpster, prevent injuries from the item falling from an unsecured position.
2)Break Down Items:
Break down items to its smallest state. This goes for foam, boxes, cabinets, drywall etc. This is a great way to utilize space, giving you a greater value for your rental.
3)Know the Weight Limit of Your Dumpster:
While it is impossible to know how much the items you are disposing of will weigh, getting a rough idea is important. Every dumpster rental company has a weight limit per dumpster size, so be sure to ask.
*This is primarily because we get charged by weight at the dump.
While the vast majority of home cleaning projects do not reach our weight limits, it’s wise to be aware of the items being thrown in. If the majority of the items are heavy wooden furniture or saturated with water due to a flooding cleanup you may exceed the limit. Knowing the additional weight charge (should you go over) will help you stay within your project’s budget.
