What to Do with CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) TVs
An estimated 705 million cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions sold just in the U.S. since 1980, according to the EPA.
It’s also estimated that over 20 million of these TV sets still being disposed of every year in which that number gets larger each year, as well.
CRT glass can contain 4 to 8 pounds of lead as well as phosphorus dust which are toxic substances responsible for many severe health issues. Lead from this CRT glass can leach into the earth at landfills and eventually make its way into our water sources. They also can contain mercury, cadmium and beryllium. Many states have banned dumping these into landfills.
